Student Success

If you would like to feature on our "Success Wall" please speak to your tutor or Mr Metcalfe

Hello, my name is Ashleigh and I go to Quarrydale.

My favorite subject is P.E and I do figure skating. I do many competitions and have to work up to different NISA levels. There are several genres of figure skating including pairs, synchro, dance and figure. My main genre is figure as that is my highest level and what I generally do. However, I also take part in dance. I have been in a few competitions with lots more to come, some of my favorites were Blackpool Ice skating festival 2018, Annuals (a club competition) and an annual dance competition (club competition).

I have roughly skated for 3 and a half years (not seriously until last year) and I am hoping to go to the British Championships or World Grand Prix. I skate six days a week. It is a struggle to fit everything in but, with homework club at school, I am able to finish it on time. On Sunday and Tuesday I have to skate in the mornings, sometimes really early and then on the rest of the days I have to skate straight after school or really late at night.

Hi, my name is Bethany, I currently study “Health and Social care”, “History”, “Music” and “Drama.

My passion is to sing, dance, and act. I take musical theatre, acting, ballet and tap at Funky Studios. I have a private singing lesson in school, as well as private musical theatre and singing lessons outside of school. I am also in the school choir.

With Funky Studios I have performed in numerous shows, including summer and Christmas showcases. With my private singing, musical and theatre lesson I do work to improve my skills. Also from my singing musical lesson, I do competitions, which I got 1st (twice) and 3rd. Doing these shows and exams boosts my self-esteem and makes me happy.

I also was in Mansfield Operatic Society, which does shows at the Palace Theatre every year. A couple years ago I was in Annie. Being in these outside school activities allows me to socialise with different age groups.

I have been involved in different school productions such as the Christmas show, where I stared as “Wishy Washy”.

I do many other competitions including Ashfield Factor, where I have won medals numerous times.

I like to do everything that goes on, as it keeps my social life moving. I have conversations with my friends who go to these clubs. Also going to these clubs keeps my self-esteem up, and prepares me for school life.

Hi my name is Tomas and at Quarrydale I am currently studying Photography and Astronomy.

Outside of school I am in the Army Cadets Force.

In Cadets we learn about what our army uses today, such as discipline. We also complete stances, marches and parades.

Every week or month we to a camp. At the camp we do activities such as rock climbing, abseiling and canoeing but we do army related things as well such as shooting and obstacle courses. At the end we all do a parade and receive promotions or awards.

In cadets you have chances to get awards to help you with your career such as Duke of Edinburgh. If you progress well in cadets and leave at 18 you can sign up as an ACF adult volunteer to help younger people or you can take a career in the army as an normal soldier or officer.

To balance my evenings out I only do things on Monday, Thursday and weekends/holidays. This really helps me because I can do homework before I go to cadets and manage my school life.

Hey, I am Kiera.

I’m currently studying GCSEs including Psychology and Music. I love Psychology; at this point in time I want to see how  that can be a career path. When I’m outside of school, I tend to drift off into the land of music at times. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember and in the past few years at Quarrydale I’ve picked up skills for guitar and ukulele. My skills have helped me gain popularity on platforms such as YouTube and Twitter, which for me, means there are more people who can see what I can do, and that is great for getting recommended to companies. I love to show off my talents and shock people with what I do. When I sing, a completely different me comes out. I’d love to take up music as a career and I’m hoping to maybe even sign with a record company at some point.

Currently, I am only taking part in small scale events such as open mics at pubs, and local festivals. I have performed on live stage in the ‘Ashfield Gala Music and Food’ festival several times, and I’ve also been lucky enough to pass through to the final round of Ashfield Factor (a signing competition) with no recommended improvements! And although I am not much of an actor, I’ve also taken the lead role in a pantomime for the movie Aladdin.

My musical studies are always fun; we do some theory work near to the start of the course but most of it is performances in school events. We perform as a class and as individuals so everyone can show off their skills!

I try my hardest to make sure events I play at are on the weekends. If they happen to fall on a week day , I ensure that my homework is all sorted so I do not miss out of any learning! For me, school is just as important as following my dreams. Without an education I would not be able to get anywhere, so I try my best to balance it!

My name is Lucy and I am currently studying  GCSE-Computing, French, English, Maths, Triple Science, History, Dance and P.E.

I enjoy almost all of my subjects and school as a whole.

I have danced for 11 years, nearly 12, and have done multiple workshops with some amazing people. I have competed in competitions in Blackpool Winter Gardens, Scunthorpe, Nottingham, Sheffield and many other places in the UK, as well as Scotland Aviemore. I have performed shows for multiple dance companies, projects and yearly dance school shows.

With doing dance for so long and doing almost every possible style there is, there have been some amazing opportunities for me along the way. I have choreographed twice in a large project at the dance school I attend, as well as here at Quarrydale. I have also been incorporated in GCSE and A-Level dance groups for other people that have been moderated for the person’s real exam.

As I have explained I have done many things from dance and met some astonishing people with it and so can anyone else. It is a fun and enjoyable experience that challenges myself to accomplish new things I never thought I could.  Dance gives me a sense of achievement and boosts my confidence no end!

To fit both school and dance in I do all my homework before my lessons in the evening to ensure it is all done on time and to the best of my ability but to still continue my hobby at the same time.

My name is Lucia and I go to Quarrydale Academy.

My favourite subjects are P.E, History and DT (Design and Technology)

I do Korean fighting and Taekwondo known as Mixed martial arts(MMA).

I’ve been doing this for 6 years and have competed for 3. Competitions do notalways have to be competitive. For example I have done a talent show at school and I hope to put on more shows in the future.

I have been to Malta twice and in that time I have won 5 titles. I usually compete almost 3 to 4 times a month at busy times of the year.

Doing competitions and martial arts has really made me step out my comfort zone and I still get really nervous before I fight. But it is just an instinct that everyone has before a competition with an audience.

I do competitions all over the world and I intend to be an actress, fitness teacher and a stunt woman.

Sometimes it is really hard when I have classes every evening and then school the next morning. Usually I’m fine and can catch up at the weekend ( if I don’t have a competition ) and get all my homework done on time.

My name is Madison and I go to Quarrydale Academy

For my GCSE options I have chosen Construction, Photography and Design and Technology

Outside of school my hobby is go-karting and I race at a track called Fulbeck. In 2016 I won the championship and I’m hoping to win it this year. I am the only girl in my group, which is called Junior Max. I have been doing it for 3 years now and I have made lots of great memories and met lots of amazing people along the way.

I have won a lot of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies and I have also won the "Driver of the Year Award". I race twice a month at LKRC which stands for Lincolnshire kart race circuit and I have been racing there for almost a year. Before that I use to race at Tattersall and that is where I won the championship.

I work really hard to get my homework done and complete all my school work so I can attend karting at the weekends.

My name is Piper, I go to Quarrydale Academy.

My favourite subjects are Science and Drama. Outside of school I take part in Guides and also help out at Rainbows. At guides we earn badges by learn new things and I have made lots of friends. Rainbows is for girls aged 5-7 and I am a Guidehelper.

At Rainbows the members do lots of activities and learn important skills like how to call 999 and what to say. They also make friends and most importantly they have fun. I am a Guide and I love being a Guide because it has given me lots of opportunities. For example, I have been camping with my Guide unit at camp. I did a wide range of activities and met other girl Guides and Scouts.

We also learn skills we may need for the future. I do Guides and Rainbows normally once a week, which means I have time to do homework and other things I enjoy.

My name is Alaya and I am in tutor group Y.

I raised £210 for Alzeimer's Society and I did a 5 mile walk on Sunday 7th October 2018.

I went to Clumber Park and all of the walkers set off at 11AM. The long walk finished at 1PM.

Between September and October 110,000 people will have walked for this charity.

I chose this event as my Aunty is a carer and she sees people struggling with how hard it is for them.
